But how did The HUB all begin?

Our Founding Story

2021: Our First Year

The Harvard Undergraduate Blockchain Club, known as the Harvard Blockchain Club at the time, was founded in the fall of 2021 by Virat Talwar and Roman Ugarte, two passionate underclassmen who wanted to create an inclusive environment for the crypto-curious and crypto enthusiasts alike. With a small team of dedicated students and a crypto boom in the industry, the club soon scaled to several arms and several hundred members. The club ran important educational initiatives, and due to its growing size, looked to soon expand to commercial ventures.

Anne Brandes and Cheikh Fiteni inherited the club in the fall of 2022, building a consulting arm and navigating the club through the start of our current bear market. Anne and Cheikh helped oversee a record-breaking Harvard Blockchain Conference alongside the Harvard Business School’s blockchain club, expand club infrastructure to streamline funding, and more.

2022: Our Second Year

2023: Our Third Year

The core team remained dynamic and resilient to industry volatility that only ramped up in the fall of 2023, when Luke Richey and Anika Lakhani took over. Luke and Anika incubated several projects that have been pivotal to this year’s operations, such as forming the initial connections across Web3 VCs and fellow clubs for the HUB Coalition, contributing to another record-breaking annual Harvard Blockchain Conference, and uniting undergraduate and graduate blockchain efforts across the Cambridge-Boston area amidst day-to-day activities like hosting blockchain workshops and dinners.

This year, Anika is leading a talented team of underclassmen to bring the 2023 project incubations to fruition, birth new ventures that remain resilient to industry volatility, and secure a meaningful legacy for The HUB in the coming years. The 2024-2025 school year also marks the inaugural year of the CUBE Summit (and related efforts), for which The HUB is a proud partner.

2024: Our Fourth Year
